Sporting a "fresh" haircut

On Memorial Day I brought Vigo home.  First I had to help my neighbor shear him and trim his feet.

He didn’t appear to have been shorn before, his coat was a matted mess of burdocks and dirt.  We did the best we could, but he wouldn’t stand still for it, so he ended up with a sorta weird looking hairdo.  All I can think of is Bugs Bunny saying “An interesting monster needs an interesting hairdo.”

His feet were a mess too, very long nails.  He really, really didn’t like them getting trimmed.  But, again, we did the best we could, and I’ll try to stay on top of it more frequently going forward.  Hopefully, I can work with him enough so that this won’t be so difficult in the future.

Once all his spa treatments were finished, we put him on a lead and walked him down to my house, about a mile and a half on a dirt road,  fortunately, there wasn’t much traffic.  He walks well on a lead, only stopping to wait for my cousin the photographer to tie her shoe.  With any luck she’ll get me some pics of us walking him home and will post some later.

The goats are very curious about the new guy.

I had been worried about how the goats would react to him, but I needn’t have.  They were curious, and everyone took a turn sniffing him.  After about 4 hours I walked the dogs down to the fenceline on a leash.  Vigo ran right up to the fence where we were, and the goats all ran behind him.   I was amazed, since that’s exactly what should happen, I just couldn’t believe it would happen so fast.   Later on that evening, I watched from the house as he led the goats up to the barn for the night.  He got them all inside, then promptly laid down in the doorway.  He’s gonna work out just fine.
